INTRODUCTION TO REIKI HEALING AND ITS BENEFITS
You must be wondering “What the heck is Reiki Healing?“, whether you hear people talking about it or this is your first time seeing it, it is becoming more popular and in demand. Let me walk
you through exactly what it is, and how it can benefit your mental and physical health. We all could use a little positive guidance and be informed of what is actually available to help us improve our mental state of mind, especially during this pandemic!
The word REIKI derives from the Japanese word (REI) which means “Universal” and (KI) which means “Life Force”.
Reiki is a powerful, natural and spiritual healing system that is used as an alternative therapy for treatment of physical, emotional and mental diseases; such as anxiety, depression and other sicknesses. It is a non-invasive technique that is used to manage illness symptoms and improve your general well-being with the goal of improving the flow of life energy in a person.
It's also an effective form of energy work using spiritually guided life force energies. Our entire being is like one big energy ball made up of energy fields, and if this energy is disrupted, it can lead to health problems.
The simple goal of Reiki is to realign these energies.
If you're hearing about this for he first time, Reiki isn’t some new form of therapy or new revelation, it has actually been around for thousands of years. In the early 1920’s in Japan, It was re-discovered and taught by Reiki Master, Dr. Mikao Usui, a Buddhist, who then passed down his teachings to others before passing away in 1926.
There are so many amazing benefits of Reiki Healing, including:

You are probably wondering how to receive such awesome benefits, right? Sure you are! You are also wondering how this is performed, aren’t you? You sure are!
During a Reiki healing session, the patient is usually laying face-up on a Reiki table (fully clothed), although it can be performed while sitting in a chair as well. The practitioner will then ask you to close your eyes and focus on certain areas of your life, body and mind that is most affecting your life or where you’d like improvement. If you are comfortable, you may also share this information with your practitioner but not necessary, your energy will guide the practitioner to areas where it needs the most attention. Before the session, the Practitioner will then protect the area, the patient and themselves with “white light” and request only positive energies be allowed during the session - as well as any other rituals the practitioner has before performing. The practitioner will then start the session by using both hands (with or without physical contact to your skin) starting at the top of your head and gradually moving down to the bottom of your feet. A session could last up to an hour or could be longer, and every patient is different. The practitioner will know when it is time to end a session.
So, what can you expect during a session? Complete calmness and clarity! Every patient experience is different. However, 9 out of 10 patients claim to feel warmth and feel “tingly” on their skin as the practitioners hands move over the areas. A lot of patients get an overwhelming feeling of emotions, whether it be happy, sad and some even cry during a session. It’s completely normal! The session will end with the practitioner discarding all of the bad energies that “surfaced” throughout the session. This sounds crazy, I know! But trust the process, it’s extremely rewarding.
After the session is over, I always advise my patients to continue to lay there and take a few deep breaths in and exhales out while relaxing for a few minutes, allowing them enough time until they feel ready to sit up. It’s also important to drink lots of water throughout the hours after a session.
There are no “bad side effects” of Reiki. It is all done with greater good, positive energy and spiritual protection at all times. I was nervous about this when I first started, and I was and still am a firm believer in bad luck, vibes and energy. Trust that this is absolutely NOT the case. No bad energy is ever transferred with Reiki as it is healing technique.
I typically like to follow up with my patients about 4-6 hours after a session in addition to a week later. Most have claimed to feel “lighter” and more focused and calm, being able to work on tasks more efficiently, and have lessened anxiety and stress. There are also a few that have felt nothing until days following a session. Everyone receives Reiki differently, so it can also take a couple of sessions before you notice any changes at all. Again, TRUST THE PROCESS, AND YOURSELF!
I want to end with how I, myself, was introduced to Reiki. I suffer from severe anxiety and panic attacks triggered by constant overthinking (what female doesn’t overthink, am I right?), I am not a huge fan of medication to cure any ailments, including IB’s like Tylenol, I would rather just deal with my anxiety and panic and hope the feeling just goes away sooner than later. One night while working my Management job at a busy casino restaurant, having what I thought was a silent mental breakdown, my boss noticed I wasn’t right (BTW, it was totally NOT silent). He asked me what I do to control it, my response was “NOTHING”. He asked me if I have ever heard of Reiki energy healing. I immediately said “WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?” So, he explained it in the most “Reiki for dummies” book kind of way. I thought he was crazy and it was some type of voodoo magic, cult crap. I went on about my life with no thought about it, but my attacks became more frequent and less self-controllable. So, I started researching this crazy witchcraft (no, it really isn’t witchcraft). My mind was blown! I was addicted to learning more about it. I purchased books, watched endless videos and read article after article about it. I was fascinated, intrigued and excited to go see a Reiki Healer. Not long after, I became so passionate about it, I wanted to help others heal and that's when I started my journey on becoming a Practitioner. I am so excited to take you on this path with me to help you learn about how you can benefit from this amazing practice.
