SMITHVILLE'S ORIGINAL COFFEE ROASTER IS BACK

For over 30 years, Adam Perfetti was the artist and scientist behind the aromas of perfectly roasted coffee that filled the air in Smithville, NJ. This Spring, the original Smithville coffee roaster returns to the historic village in a new cozy corner with overflowing lattes, mouthwatering acai bowls, and refreshing smoothies. 

The Perfetti family are the new owners of Surf Road Coffee Bar & Beach Bowls, located between Fairest of Them All and Out of Ireland in History Smithville, New Jersey. Adam, who learned the tricks of the coffee roasting trade from his father, is passing the torch to his two sons, Cole and Alex. 

While Alex Perfetti manages the day-to-day behind the scenes, Cole Perfetti whips up new recipes, creates new coffee blends, and designs menus for the family-owned and operated business. 

Cole is a recent graduate of The Academy of Culinary Arts (ACA) at Atlantic Cape Community College, graduating valedictorian and winning a Nathan Schwartz Award—an award offered by ACA that recognizes the exemplary commitment and passion required in the culinary field. 

“Everyone was fantastic at ACA, but the majority of where my food experience, professionalism, and friendliness came from was with a few of my classmates,” explained Cole in an interview. He went on to recognize his classmate Noah Johnson, who he says “was probably one of the most influential people I worked with.” 

While Cole is wearing the hard-earned chef coat, he credits his brother Alex with much of the business success thus far, saying, “He’s the primary reason why this company is a company. I’m able to put together some food and a menu, but you’d never see that menu online if it were not for my brother.” 

With a grand opening scheduled for June 8th and 9th, the family is thrilled to roll out their signature coffee blends and new menu. In celebration of the official opening weekend, Surf Road is partnering with Cape Island Bikes for a beach cruiser giveaway. Two Haven Inlet 3 26” Cruiser Bikes will be given away to two guests who RSVP to the grand opening.

The weekend of fun will feature two musical performances that you won’t want to miss. On Saturday, June 8th, catch musician Christian Glomb from 11 am-2 pm. Christian has shared the stage with John Mayer, Pepper, Fishbone, and more. Catch a sneak peek of Christian’s music on Spotify. 

The fun continues on Sunday with Sensamotion, on Sunday, June 9th from 11 am - 2 pm. Sensamotion is a legendary local act that has shared the stage with The Wailers, Ziggy Marley, Stick Figure, Fortunate Youth, and more. 

Since the Perfettis opened their doors, coffee has been flowing abundantly, and they’re looking forward to an exciting summer in Smithville. When asked what goes into the perfect roast, Adam says, “Temperature, airflow, and timing all matter and vary from one coffee type to the next; if you roast it too fast, it’ll be underdeveloped, and the flavors won’t come out. If you roast it too long, it tastes burnt or like baked bread. It really is an art.”
