Kick off the 2024-25 off-off-Broadway theater season with the new musical-comedy, The Diamond as Big as the Ritz, (www.ritzmusical.com) playing for a limited three-week run this September at the ATA Sargent Theatre in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Based on the early 1920s F. Scott Fitzgerald comic novella of the same name, The Diamond as Big as the Ritz, is told through the eyes of young couple seeking to immigrate to the U.S. as they imagine Fitzgerald’s characters appearing before them on stage.

Megan Lomax plays three roles, jumping back and forth in time, acting as the matriarch of the Washington household, a French-Canadian immigration official and the head of the Washington household staff. She made her first Broadway appearance in The Skin of Our Teeth at Lincoln Center in 2022.

Here's more about Megan and her life the theater:

  • She grew up in Maryland and I went to DeSales University. She currently lives in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.

  • She says, "I have loved theater ever since I was a little girl! My first broadway show was the Lion King when I was about 7.  Once I saw the entrance of "The Circle of Life", I was hooked."

  • For her three roles, she offers these descriptions:

    • Gypsum- See no evil, speak no evil...do some evil?

    • Mrs. Washington- It's always 5'Oclock when living in the West!

    • Canadian Official- "There is a Problem..."

In terms of the easiest part of her work in the show, she says, "It's connecting to their human drive and needing to connect with the world around them." For the hardest part, as Mrs. Washington she has to balance tea.

  • Her role to date is Sabrina in Small Town Icons by SMJ. She would love to play Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors

From September 13-29, there are 16 performances of the Diamond as Big as the Ritz at the ATA Sargent Theatre on 54th Street in Midtown Manhattan. Dates and more information about the show are at ritzmusical.com. This is 90-minute, no intermission musical with catchy melodies. Take a minute to listen to this dynamite all-star Broadway cast sing, “Enough Already,” a song from the show that was nominated in England for Best New Song.
